Arcus Statistical Package

( This 16 bit Windows statistical software has been largely superceded by statsdirect )
This downloadable statistics package can be placed on a local machine and then used to calculate odds ratios, relative risk and other clinical measures such as Numbers Needed to Treat. It includes exact confidence intervals for all of these which is very rare. The package also includes calculation of pooled odds ratios using the Mantel-Haenszel or Woolf method. It is made available by Dr Iain Buchan, formerly of the Departments of Medicine and Primary Care, University of Liverpool. Arcus Biomedical for Windows is about to be launched. Details of the beta site can be obtained from Iain Buchan, now at Institute of Public Health, University of Cambridge.

Clinical Decision making

University of Nottingham TLTP (Teaching & Learning Technology Programme) project which aims to provide a suite of CAL (Computer Aided Learning) programs that cover many diverse topics that all fall under the heading of Behavioural Sciences.This particular package covers the area of making decisions without bias in a clinical situation, using a mixture of animation, graphics, text and interaction. There are five sections:- Processes Affecting Decision Making, Assessing Performance Avoiding Bias In Decision Making, Rationalising Decision Making and Outcome Assessment.

InfoRetriever & InfoPointer

Software to bring evidence-based information to the point-of-care. InfoRetriever is software that claims to provide key resources for primary care physicians in a highly portable, fully indexed format on the Newton MP2000/2100 or E-Mate series of handheld computers. A demo may be downloaded from their site. InfoRetriever includes: over 260 abstracts from the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, with over 100 new reviews added annually, over 240 critical appraisals from the Journal of Family Practice POEMs feature, with 96 more added annually, a diagnostic test calculator (sensitivity, specificity, likelihood ratios, and post-test probabilities for over 200 common tests), a history and physical exam compendium, evidence tables and summaries from key evidence-based treatment guidelines (AHCPR, USPSTF, others), useful clinical prediction rules for important conditions like chest pain, sore throat, and pneumonia. The producers plan to provide updates at least every 3 months, synchronized with the release of the quarterly update to the Cochrane Library. Each update will include new Cochrane Library abstracts, JFP POEMs, and new diagnostic test data.

RevMan

RevMan is the Cochrane Collaboration's own systematic review software for producing Cochrane-type reviews. Technical support is only provided to the members of the Cochrane Collaboration but the software is freely available from the Cochrane Collaboration web site.

  Oltre alle funzioni tradizionali di un pacchetto statistico, permette di calcolare odds ratios, rischio relativo, rischio assoluto ed altre misure di efficacia clinica come il numero di pazienti necessario da trattare (NNT); include un sistema robusto per il calcolo dei limiti di confidenza per tutte le misure descritte.

  Realizzato dal Centre for Evidence Based Medicine di Oxford per creare i CATs (Critically Appraised Topics), costituisce una risorsa eccellente per apprendere l'approccio critico alla letteratura.

• PocketMD: Evidence for the Point of Care  ho trovato questo http://www.pocketmd.com/ ma temo non sia lo stesso
  Software disegnato per fornire informazioni evidence-based durante l'attività clinica. Il Pocket MD, di cui è possibile scaricare una versione demo, viene aggiornato ogni 3 mesi ed include:

  • abstract strutturati delle revisioni sistematiche prodotte dalla Cochrane Collaboration

  • oltre 240 POEMs, dal Journal of Family Practice Journal Club (3)

  • un'archivio che riporta sensibilità, specificità, likelihood ratios e probabilità post-test di oltre 200 test diagnostici e di dati della storia e dell'esame fisico

  • linee-guida evidence-based

  • alberi decisionali per condizioni cliniche comuni (dolore toracico, mal di gola, polmonite, etc.)

• REVMAN
  Il software utilizzato dai gruppi Cochrane per realizzare le revisioni sistematiche é disponibile gratuitamente, ma il supporto tecnico viene fornito solo ai membri della Cochrane Collaboration.
